Family Medicine Residency at Baptist Memphis

In keeping with the three-fold ministry of Christ — Healing, Preaching, and Teaching — Baptist Memorial Health Care is committed to training physician leaders who understand the role that health systems and social disparities play in the lives of patients.

Our Family Medicine Residency, a collaboration between Baptist Memorial Health Care and Church Health, is an urban program dedicated to creating outstanding family physicians who have a commitment to providing care to patients and families from all walks of life. We emphasize our responsibility to bring expertise, compassion, and a deep understanding of social determinants of health to engage patients, provide exceptional care, and ensure well-being for the underserved in our community.

Baptist Memorial Medical Education offers residents the opportunity to experience Family Medicine, unopposed, at a large tertiary hospital serving the entire Mid-South region as well as at Church Health, the largest faith-based charitably-funded nonprofit health clinic in the nation.

In addition to traditional ACGME required elements, we have designed a unique curriculum that prepares young physicians to empower families and heal communities. All of our residents undertake three months of specialized training in health systems learning about systemic poverty and the impact it has on our patients. Residents have opportunities to learn from regional and national innovations in heath systems such as the Baptist Management System and Charitable Plan, Church Health Outreach Partners, the Memphis Plan, Perea Preschool, Dorothy Day House, Alcy Ball Foundation, and others as they prepare to become leaders in the community.

If this is the kind of family physician you aspire to become, come train with us!

Our Family Medicine Residency was awarded accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) effective July 1, 2015. Each year, we will recruit six applicants to fill the available PGY-1 positions for the following July.
